"The goal of this module is to introduce the essential concepts and issues in embedded
systems. Topics include computer architecture (CISC, RISC), microprocessors,
microcontrollers (MCU), general-purpose input/output (GPIO), interrupts, memory
managements... The module aims to bring these knowledge towards practical applications
using 8051, PIC, and AVR microcontrollers based on freeware emulators and real
hardware development kits for AT89S52, PIC16F877A, ATmega328. Core programming
languages for embedded systems are introduced in accompany with many interesting
examples using standard electronic components (e.g. LED, 7-segment display, LCD, ...).
Students, who passed the course, can employ the labs and the examples to build their own
varieties of embedded systems."
